Video: 2014 Diversity Awards Held at Mississippi State University

MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. – (WCBI)They encourage acceptance and embrace diversity. Friday, they were awarded for making a difference on the Mississippi State campus.

MSU President Dr. Mark Keenum named the recipients of the 2014 Diversity Awards at a ceremony Friday afternoon.

Leslie Burger of the College of Forest Resources was recognized for her research on the environment and its effects on a diverse student body.

Robert J. Morgan, of Vardaman, was named for his involvement with the international students at MSU.

The Safe Zone Advisory Board was also recognized for creating an accepting atmosphere for students who are a part of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community.

“It allows everyone to know that Mississippi State is inclusive, not only with race, but with gender and other elements of diversity here at Mississippi State,” says Alexander Washington.

Washington is the vice chair for the President’s Commission on the Status of Minorities.
