COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A woman born with HIV brings her message of prevention and awareness to the Golden Triangle.
The daughter of an IV drug user, Hydeia Broadbent contracted the virus from her mother.
She was given up for adoption, and at 7-years old, Hydeia joined basketball superstar and AIDS advocate Magic Johnson, for a Nickelodeon Special. She captured the hearts of Americans as she pleaded for acceptance.
Hydeia, now 28, is travelling around the nation to raise awareness about HIV.
She says she hopes that her life story will help prevent the spread of the disease.
“I was diagnosed at the age of 3, so I did not have a choice, but the same disease I am living with is the same disease someone can contract if they do not make wise choices with their body. That is why I use my life as warning, because it does not have to happen. HIV is 100% preventable,” says Broadbent.
Hydeia also joins Aundrea Thursday at the MidMorning Table for an exclusive interview about her past, her struggles and her plans for the future.
