COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — With neighborhood schools increasingly a thing of the past, parents and schools of all kinds are having to get creative to make sure students get to school safely.

Annunciation Catholic School in Columbus is the latest to get in the transportation business. The school and Waters Transportation unveiled the school’s new bus service today with a maiden voyage of a bus carrying students from Starkville to Columbus.

In previous years, parents had shuttled the students and for the last two years, contracted with a cab service to bring as many as three dozen Starkville kids to Columbus. The bus seemed to be the next step.

“And we figured this was crucial to us and the stability of the school and for us to continue our Starkville growth,” explained Annunciation Principal Jonie House.

Thirty-nine  Starkville students are enrolled at the school.
