H1N1 Vaccines Given Out for Free

COLUMBUS, Miss - Mississippi health officials throughout the state have received almost 224 thousand doses of the H1N1 vaccine, of those, 77 thousand are in the nasal mist form.

With Health Centers and clinics handing out the vaccination for free, lines are forming all across the state. So far, nine Mississippians have died from H1N1.

Columbus Parent Scotte Mendiola says, "He came down with 103 fever, he had a cough, he had the bodyaches, he was feeling really bad, and he's only five, so we got scared."

Still, some remain skeptical of the vaccine, saying they haven't been sick in years and think they'll be fine this flu season.

According to Amy Buskey, "No, I am not geting the shot, because I really don't get sick in the winter time."

Health officials say, a regular flu shot will not protect you from H1N1. Most doctors will tell you it is a good idea to get both, but not everyone is convinced.

Columbus resident Tammy Head says, "I just don't know if it's been studied enough is my main concerned."

According to Mendiola, "Honestly I think my immune system is pretty good. I rarely get sick at all, my wife is in the military so I do get the flu vaccination yearly, mist wise."

Doctors say those who need medical attention should call first to avoid possible transmission while waiting in waiting rooms.
