LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)--The Louisville Fire Department needs volunteers.
They are looking for a few good people to work as firefighters, safety instructors and more.
In the past, volunteers made up more than two-thirds of the department, but their ranks have dwindled recently.
V-F-D's are often the first line of defense for fires, natural disasters and medical emergencies.

Fire Chief Terry Johnson says, "And we have volunteers. Those volunteers are the heart and soul of our department. They help us protect the community. They are people who get up at 1 o'clock in the morning, or they get up in the middle of the night during a storm, and they give their time willingly to protect the community."

The Louisville Fire Department needs both first responders and non-emergency volunteers.
