CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) - A house fire in the Steentown community claims the lives of two Calhoun Co. children.
Sheriff Greg Pollan says they were dispatched to a home in the Steentown community around 7:25 Thursday morning.
Pollan says, there were eight children, between the ages of three and 17, in the house at the time of blaze.
3-year-old Madyson Smalley and 10-year-old Malik Gillespie died at the scene.
Pollan says their bodies were found in a back room of the home near a window that had an air conditioning unit in it.
The other six children were treated and released to family members and seem to be doing well.
Officials from the State Fire Marshall's Office were on the scene Thursday afternoon and determined the fire started near another window A/C unit in a different area of the house.
Pollan also tells WCBI, charges may be filed at a later date in this case because the children were at home alone at the time.
The investigaton continues.
