CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) - A Clay County man is found face down at a popular boat landing late Thursday night.

Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott says, they received a call around 11:40p.m. of a black male lying in a ditch next to Tibby Creek. The man is identified as 45 year old Lawrence Maxwell.

Deputies say, they found Maxwell near a boat landing off of Tibby Road.

Maxwell seemed to have been severely beaten and possibly shot.

Authorities are not releasing anymore details.

Maxwell's body has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy.

Clay County Sheriffs continue to investigate the homicide.
