Music filled the air at the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor center in Tupelo today.
The North Mississippi Dulcimer Association gathered together to play their instruments and teach visitors about its extensive history. The instrument is known as the Appalachian mountain dulcimer, which was the first instrument developed in the United States dating back to the early 1800s. One dulcimer player believes anyone can play despite your musical abilities.
"It's the easiest instrument in the world to learn to play. It has a soft sweet sound you can play it individually or with a small group or with a large group," said Forrest Smith.
The name dulcimer means "sweet sounds".
