NEW ORLEANS, LA (WCBI) - Monday a former Oxford attorney will go before the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals to appeal his conviction and sentence.
In 2008 Zach Scruggs plead guilty to a new federal count of misprision of a felony, which meant he knew about and failed to report any illegal talks with Circuit Judge Henry Lackey, who presided over a lawsuit against Scruggs and others.
In November of 2007 Scuggs father, Richard Dickie Scruggs and several others were indicted on six counts associated with a scheme to bribe Circuit Judge Lackey.
Senior Judge Neal Biggers Jr. sentenced Zach Scruggs to 14 months in prison and a $250,000 fine with 12 months post released supervision.
The court will hear the case Monday in a New Orleans courtroom.
