PHIL CAMPBELL, Ala. (AP) - Officials say they've finally cleared the way for crews to demolish a north Alabama high school that was badly damaged in the tornado outbreak on April 27, 2011.
    
Franklin County School Superintendent Gary Williams tells the TimesDaily (http://bit.ly/NVtHbG ) the demolition work should begin within a few months at Phil Campbell High School.
   
The school was severely damaged by one of the strongest twisters that hit the state that day.
   
Federal officials initially allocated $6.1 million to repair the school. But Williams says that wasn't a good option because some of the buildings date back more than 60 years. A survey completed in May determined nothing could be salvaged.
   
Williams says students most likely will remain in portable classrooms for at least two years during construction of a replacement school.
