Caledonia Has Sights Set on Playoffs

CALEDONIA, Miss. (WCBI) -- Two years into his tenure at Caledonia and coach Richard Kendrick knows what kind of team he has returning for 2012.

After going (4-7) last season, Caledonia's best overall record since 2005, the Confederates believe this can be their year to break through with a birth in the playoffs.

"We graduated only five seniors from last year's squad," coach Kendrick said. "We have good experience and we're hoping for good things.

"We want to be realistic with our goals but also have the same goals as our opponents do. Every year our goal is to get to the playoffs and this is our third year together. It's a building process and our kids understand that, but hopefully we'll see the results from our labor this year."

Those results will more than likely depend on a wealth of experience at the skill positions. With returning quarterback Ben Marchbanks and leading rusher Onterrio Lowrey, the Confederates will have plenty of power in the backfield to unleash on their opponents.

"We have so many seniors this year and our goal is to go to the playoffs," Marchbanks said. "I think we'll be pretty good but we'll have to play our heart out when we get to Noxubee County and Louisville."

From 2008 to 2010, Caledonia managed just two victories in their 29 games. Last year, the Feds doubled that tally. Another double down on the victory total would be a welcome sight for a school yearning for a chance in the postseason.
