TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -- Hundreds of people showed up Saturday to celebrate and honor the 148th anniversary of the battle of Tupelo.

There was plenty to do for the crowd, who got a history lesson in the process.

The dedication started with music and a march by the Harrisburg Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. The grounds used to be the Old Harrisburg Cemetery where the grave stones of two Confederate officers now rest.

In honor of those officers and others, a flag ceremony was held with the singing of 'Amazing Grace.' A musket salute and prayer gave tribute to the casualties.

For many the Civil War was a moment in history but for others, Saturday's event was a way for the community to come together and remember our nation as one.
