New Oyster Study

MOBILE, AL (WCBI) - A new study released by Auburn University and the Dauphin Island Sea Lab shows there are limits to how much pollution oysters can clean up.
Adult oysters can filter as much as 50 gallons of water a day.
Scientists were able to figure how much nitrogen an oyster can remove each day as it pumps water through its body.
Nitrogen is the key nutrients responsible for the creation of several dead zones that build in bays all across the Gulf.
To much nitrogen and not enough oxygen is affecting the number of fish and other marine life that live in the bay areas.
