OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) - As the relentless July sun scorches the landscape, many of us would welcome a chance to cool off in the Oktibbeha County lake. When the land was recently reappraised, its lease price multiplied, and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks decided not to renew. For now, the site remains padlocked. The lake sits on 16th section land, so it's owned by the Oktibbeha County School District. Superintendent James Covington says people or organizations have until the end of the month to make a proposal to lease the land. After that, the Oktibbeha County School Board will meet to decide its next move.
