COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -- Busy Highway 45 through Columbus' biggest retail center could soon get a facelift.

The city wants to hire a landscape architect to work with City Engineer Kevin Stafford and City Planner Christina Berry on ideas for re-landscaping the busy stretch between Highway 82 and Bluecutt Road.

Residents have complained for years about the clutter of signs and utility poles along the route. But removing utility poles could cost millions of dollars and take years.

City officials hope new landscaping might at least improve both the appearance and safety. The council is expected is expected to discuss the idea at its meeting Tuesday.
