TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WCBI)- The man suspected of injuring 17 people at a Tuscaloosa bar wanted police to kill him. According to Police Chief Steve Anderson, 44 year old Nathan Wilkins said that he wanted police to kill him after the shooting at teh Copper Bar around 12:30 Tuesday morning (7-17); but he got scared and left before police arrived.
Wilkins, who is charged with 18 counts, allegedly used an AK-47 to shoot into the crowd, injurying 17 people. Records indicate he had declared bankruptcy and had lost his job with an oil and gas company. Wilkins is also suspected of shooting a man at a home in Northport before arriving at the bar, and then setting fire to him former workplace later Tuesday morning (7-17).
Meanwhile, five people are still in the hosptial recovering from their injuries. A spokesman says one person is in serious condition in the hosptial's intensive care unit. Two others are in fair condition and two others will be discharged today.
