TIBBEE, Miss. (WCBI) -- A body found in Catalpa Creek in the Tibbee community of southern Clay County Wednesday morning is identified as 28-year-old Alex Sims, who was reported missing Sunday or Monday by his wife in Meridian.
Sims was last seen Saturday at a home on 64th Avenue in Meridian. His last known address was 511 55th Ave. in Meridian. The Clay County Sheriff's Department and Meridian Police Department are jointly working the case and are treating it for now as a homicide.
Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter says the state medial examiner still is trying to determine a cause of death.
No vehicle was found near the body and investigators are trying to determine how Sims got to Clay county and if foul play occurred, whether it happened in Meridian, Clay County or somewhere else.
Carter says Sims was identified by his wife today. Distinctive tattoos, including one of the state of Mississippi, helped ID him.
His body was found floating by two fishermen Wednesday morning.
