JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) - The new head of the Mississippi State Medical Association is looking to get more towns and cities to ban smoking and to make changes in teenager vaccinations.
Dr. Steven Demetropoulos of Pascagoula wants to see more cities ban smoking in bars and restaurants. Already 23% of towns and cities have bans in place.
He says, he wants more adolescents to get vaccinations before entering college.
Another goal is to get more doctors into rural areas of the state.
Scholarships are being offered to get more doctors interested in the study of general family practice.
