(WEST POINT, Ms.) (WCBI) A war is going on in West Point and blood has already been drawn.
Its the 13th Annual Battle of the Banks, a United Blood Services Bloodmobile is parked at Bancorpsouth in the point city.
With sleeves rolled up, bank employee Sherman Berry makes a life giving deposit....in enemy territory.
"You know honestly this is the first time I've done this. And so its the Battle of The Banks and I work at Cadence Bank, and wanted to support not only our bank, but also those that are in need," said Sherman Berry, Blood Donor.
"I know it, they are trying to win but we're not going to let them. Ha, ha, ha," said wanda Hudson, Bank Teller.
Its the only time bankers want to see the red and not be in the black.
Faithful soldiers of this blood collecting brigade at Bancorpsouth won last year's battle and have bragging rights and a beautiful trophy to prove it.
"Bancorpsouth won the Battle of the banks last year for the first time. Cadence Bank has already had it at their bank before. So we won it last year, so we have it here," said Hudson.
"No, this is not my first time giving blood. I try to do as much as possible. I'm usually on like, I try to go to different countries during the Summer. But this time I haven't been," said Kate Rowe, Blood Donor.
In this battle, everyone signing up is a winner no matter which bank they make deposits at.
"Saving lives. Getting people to give back to their community. So when you need blood you'll have it available for you," said Hudson.
That battle continues at high noon on Wednesday and will be fought till six pm.
To donate blood in this battle, volunteers must be at least 16 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.
