Link Hires Vice President to Handle Clay County
WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) -- A Florida economic development recruiter with experience in international trade will lead efforts to bring new businesses to West Point and Clay County.Ron Maloney of Sarasota will join the Columbus-Lowndes Development Link next month as vice president for Clay County.
His hiring comes after a months-long search to fill the new position created after the Clay County Growth Alliance contracted with the Link to form a regional job creation effort.
Maloney was one of four finalists.
He's owned his own consulting firm in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Sarasota. He's also was a vice president with the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota and vice president of global marketing for the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance.
His experience in international trade could be helpful given the region's growing list of foreign companies with local investments, ranging from Russia with Severstal to France with American Eurocopter.
Clay County will host a reception for him on Aug. 2 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at The Ritz in West Point.

COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Columbus Lowndes Development LINK has hired Ron Maloney as the new Vice President of Economic Development, Clay County.
Maloney comes to the LINK from Sarasota, Fla., where he served as proprietor and CEO of Dynamic Impact Consulting. He brings more than 13 years of experience in business recruitment and expansion, program and project management and tactical execution to the LINK team. Prior to founding Dynamic Impact consulting, Maloney served as the vice-president of global marketing and coordinator of the Southwest Regional Export Network with the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance in Pittsburgh, Penn.
In his role at the LINK, Maloney will bring his extensive expertise to growing existing and recruiting new businesses in the Clay County area.
"Ron is a uniquely qualified individual for the Clay County development position,' said Joe Higgins, CEO of the Columbus Lowndes Development LINK. "His experience with domestic and international business recruitment and energetic attitude will bring a new element to the LINK economic development team."
While at the PRA, Maloney held a number of titles spanning nearly 10 years. Accomplishments include:
- Assisting 40+ companies to export over $100 million in goods and services.
- Increased the performance rating of the Regional Export Network (REN) from 84 percent to 121 percent.
- Converted13 international leads into investment projects, 11 projects resulting in the potential creation of 700+ jobs created and $186 million in capital investment from 2005-2007.
In May 2012, the LINK and Clay County reached an agreement in which the LINK would provide economic development services to Clay County including but not limited to workforce development, existing business expansion and retention, new business attraction and development, research and planning and organizational capacity.
