Adidas today unveiled Mississippi State's home and away football uniforms featuring the latest TECHFIT technology for the upcoming season. The seamless TECHFIT jerseys displayed today feature traditional home maroon with white trim and road white with maroon trim. The TECHFIT pants will be available in three color combinations - maroon/white, white/maroon and a new silver pant option with maroon trim.
"Our players love the design of these new uniforms, but more importantly they really like the feel and performance of the new material," head coach Dan Mullen said. "We're looking forward to showing them off on Sept. 1."
The new jerseys feature a larger Mississippi State wordmark on the center of the chest with a "banner" stripe down the arms. Adidas designers brought the banner off the main M-State logo featured on the helmet, and its tapered finish on the compression base layer ties the stripe to the primary mark. Another new addition to the design is an outline of the state of Mississippi just below the neck line on the back of the jersey.
The new adidas TECHFIT jersey is a complete reconstruction of the standard football jersey with multiple innovations to reduce the weight of the jersey by 30 percent. These technologies include a streamlined fit, new fabric, reduced seams and an ultra lightweight name and numbering system. In addition, the adidas TECHFIT jersey keeps players cool with integrated ventilation zones and moisture wicking fabric. Reduced seams and a restriction-free, high-stretch collar design increases range of motion to support player agility and speed.
"The TECHFIT uniform will provide Mississippi State with the most technically advanced uniform in the industry today," said Mark Daniels, director of football for adidas America. "We're are pleased to put the best products in the market on our partners at Mississippi State and look forward to many winning years under the direction of Scott Stricklin and Dan Mullen."
The TECHFIT pants feature a similar stripe to the jerseys, beginning below the primary mark near the hip. In addition to the outer layers, adidas designed a compression base layer to compliment the jersey, adizero Smoke gloves and a newly designed helmet.
The new headgear design will feature a stripe consistent with those throughout the uniform, allowing for the cohesiveness of design to permeate from headgear to the jersey to the base layer on down to the pants.
"We value the relationship we have with adidas, our uniform and sideline apparel supplier," Mississippi State director of athletics Scott Stricklin said. "Adidas has been aggressive in both design and fabric development, and has been responsive to our goals since partnering with us in 2009. We look forward to the upcoming season and the new adidas products."
While some design elements are new (i.e., the large Mississippi State wordmark on the chest), Mississippi State has worn silver pants before, yet have not done so in more than two decades.
Early this fall, adidas and Mississippi State plan to unveil uniform designs for the Texas A&M contest (the first meeting between the two schools since the 2000 Independence Bowl, commonly dubbed the "Snow Bowl") and the annual season-ending contest against in-state rival Ole Miss, known as the Battle for the Golden Egg.
