(STEENS, Ms)(WCBI)The mild winter and hot summer have led to a thriving snake population.
Snake bites in the country are up more than 60 percent this year.
"I was headed to the hospital and I just got my dad's truck. And I started throwing up and just seeing completely white. I was trying to stay awake and all on the way to the hospital ride," said Cody Pugh, Snake Bite Victim.
18 year old Cody Pugh has been in the hospital for two weeks.
It will be Monday before he can go home.
A six foot long timber rattlesnake sank its venomous fangs into Cody's leg.
He was doing yard work for his grandmother when the snake struck.
"And she was wanting me to go lift the door up and my mom walked down there with me. My dad had been walking over the door and I guess it got her mad and we went to go lift the door and I looked at my mom and I said oh my God. There is a snake under there. And I went to go let the door down she grabbed me and bite me," said Pugh.
Cody's leg is still heavily bandaged.
At one point, it swelled to about three times it's normal size.
His mother Donna says her son is blessed.
"Tragic, tragic, and just hurting. And uplifting, to thank God and be able to be alive," added Cody Pugh.
The poison traveled all the way from Cody's leg to his waist.
Thankfully, he is expected to make a full recovery.
