JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) - Starting in the 2012-2013 academic school year Mississippi school districts will implement a new sex education curriculum.
School district had until June 30th to choose what curriculum will be taught in the classroom.
They were able to choose from abstinence-only or abstinence-plus.
Under abstinence-plus students are taught about conception and condom use, but how to use condoms can not be demonstrated.
81 of Mississippi's school districts chose to adopt abstinence-only with 71 choosing to adopt abstinence-plus.
A new survey by Mississippi State University found most parents support discussion of the basics of reproduction, birth control and where to obtain it.
