(JACKSON,Ms) (WCBI)-- A recent study accuses Mississippi of making it hard to obtain a government issued photo ID. The Brennan Center for Justice estimates 48,000 low-income residents are having difficulty obtaining an ID. Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said the study inflated the number of people who live more than ten miles from a department of public safety office or lack  transportation. Hosemann says his office is doing everything it can to ensure all residents will receive a free ID as soon as the Justice Department gives their approval.

"We are in discussion with the department of justice.I believe there is another conference on Friday with them. Our prospect for voter id approved by justice department are dim to be perfectly honesty with everyone."

Mississippi is required to get federal approval for any changes in voting procedures.
