UNDATED (WCBI)-- For the last there years, many school districts across the region made the news asking for tax increases and cutting staff as local and state revenues shrank during the recession. While districts are not out of the woods yet, and some programs haven't been restored, many say the financial picture is a little better. Lee County is the latest school district to unveil a budget that doesn't require a tax increase while adding some programs. The spending plan does require the district to take a small amount from reserves. Cuts in the previous three years, slight improvements in state funding, and growth in local revenues are behind the better numbers.
