WEST POINT, Ms. (WCBI)--When you think movies you don't think of Mississippi being a hub where independent filmmakers create works that are shown all across the United States.

 Local film maker, Michael Williams of West Point, will soon have his short film "illumination" scan at the Berbank International Film Festival in Berbank, California.

His film has been in 12 other festivals since September of last year throughout the north and southeast regions.

He started creating films in high school with friends such as comedies and owes all his inspiration for the film to his favorite director.

"Illumination is a 22 minute short Sci-Fi. It's about a flawed family man sent on a path of redemption and enlightenment under extraordinary circumstance based on my experiences watching old Steven Spielberg movies from the 1980s," said Michael Williams.
