Delta Woman Cashes Deceased Grandmothers Checks

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Federal court records say a change of plea hearing is scheduled Thursday for a woman charged with cashing her dead grandmother's Social Security checks from 1986 to 2010.
Rosie Sandifer is charged with collecting more than $145,000 from the time her grandmother, Louise Coleman, died in April 1986, until the Social Security Administration discovered the situation in October 2010.
Sandifer, a 56-year-old Itta Bena woman, is charged with 20 counts related to the checks. She's also charged with failing to report the money as income when applying for food stamps.
She pleaded not guilty to the charges in May. The change of plea hearing is scheduled to take place in U.S. District Court in Oxford.
Her attorney had no comment.
