IT'S IMPORTANT: Lowndes Voters Getting New Cards

Posted by Steve Rogers | August 15, 2012 / 03:22pm | Local News, Political
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. -- Six thousand Lowndes County residents are getting an important piece of mail this week. And election officials are encouraging them to pay attention.

Circuit Court Clerk Haley Salazar has mailed new voter registration cards to people impacted by the county's new redistricting plan. It means some people are in new supervisors districts and will vote in new locations starting with the November elections.

"Bottom line, if you get a voter registration card in the mail, it is important...pay attention to it. Either the place where you vote or the district you vote in has changed," Salazar said.

For information, call the Circuit Court Clerk's office.

STATEMENT FROM CIRCUIT COURT CLERK HALEY SALAZAR

Circuit Clerk Haley Salazar has implemented the 2011 Lowndes County Redistricting Changes and new voter registration cards were mailed yesterday to those affected by it. If you receive a new voter registration card in the mail, please review it carefully as your polling place location as well as various districts that you vote in may have changed. To summarize the changes, all of Trinity will now be in Supervisor's District Five and Justice Court Judge/ Constable District Three. The majority of Sale will now be in Supervisors District One. The portion of Sale remaining in Supervisor's District Three will be combined with the Rural Hill Precinct. All of Lee Middle will now be voting in the fellowship hall of First Assembly Church on Military Rd. A portion of Union Academy will be moved to Supervisor's District two and will become a part of the former Lee Middle, which is now called First Assembly Precinct. If you have moved, it is very important that you contact us and update your voter registration with the Circuit Clerk's Office, as we mailed new registration cards to voters affected by these changes to the address that we have on file.
