Benefit for Liam

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) - In a matter of weeks a 4 month old little baby will undergo a life saving surgery. To show their support the Starkville community is holding a two day affair to help raise some much needed money for medical costs.

They've quickly fallen in love with baby Liam. Though he looks like any 4 month old baby, he will soon be having open heart surgery. A major concern for the Hodges.

"He's beautiful and perfect but he was born with a heart condition, he's got 3 heart defects and they think they can get them all knocked out with 1 surgery... It's scary but we got a lot of confidence in the doctors," said Father Ben Hodge.

Baby Liam is missing a tiny piece of his 22nd chromosome, creating possible development problems for the future. Liam's dad is a local musician and family and friends put together the Hodge Podge Musical Festival at Rick's Cafe to raise donations for up coming medical costs.

"The fact that he's having open heart surgery, I mean it's pretty scary maybe the most scary thing I've ever gone through. Our friends put this together for us, basically it's gonna help us out with going to Jackson back and forth, being off work and medical bills," said Mother Selena Hodge.

Another benefit was held June 1 and raised over 5 thousand dollars. Good friend Georgia Graham is hoping that the two day  Festival will double their donations.

"Everybody here has just pitched in and done a really heart job to make sure that we can help them out.. 100 percent of every penny that comes into this at all, the silent auction, the rock star guitar lessons, every single penny is going to Ben and Selena," added friend Georgia Graham.

The Hodges are more than thankful for all the support they've received from the community and are prepared to face the challenge that come ahead.

The Hodge Podge Music Festival included the release of an album recorded specifically for the benefit in honor of Liam.
