The following is a press release from the Mississippi Highway Patrol - August 20 marked the beginning of the 2012 "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign. The campaign is an initiative to reduce the number of impaired driving related crashes across the state. With the upcoming Labor Day weekend right around the corner, people are preparing to say good bye to summer on this last official holiday of the season. This campaign couldn't come at a better time. In a press conference on Aug. 15, Governor Phil Bryant announced that Mississippi had moved from number seven to number twenty on the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) national survey on alcohol related crashes. Campaigns such as this play a large role in getting our state out of the top ten, a poll no one wants to be ranked high in. This Holiday season be prepared to see a increased presence of law enforcement in your area. More officers on patrol and safety checkpoints will be the recurring theme throughout the time period.
