Isaac Poised To Strike Gulf Coast

Posted by Maddie Kirker | August 26, 2012 / 05:39pm | Local News, Weather
The National Hurricane Center has updated their forecast track on Isaac, directing the center of the storm towards Biloxi by early Wednesday. With that said, a Hurricane Warning is now in effect for all locations between Destin, Florida and east of Morgan City, Louisiana. As described by the NHC, a hurricane warning means that hurricane conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area.

LATEST: State of Emergency has been declared by Governor Phil Bryant for the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Isaac is expected to draw significant strength from the warm open waters of the Gulf of Mexico within the next 24 hours. The NHC agrees that it could become a Category 2 hurricane bringing sustained winds of 96 to 110 MPH by the time it nears the coast.

No doubt about it, the hardest hit will definitely be along some part of the gulf coast. Here in the WCBI viewing area, we could certainly get heavy rain and strong winds should it move in our direction. All we can do now is wait for updates sent out by the hurricane hunter airplanes and new model runs to make an accurate prediction as to where Isaac will directly hit.

The last time the Gulf Coast witnessed a hurricane was in 2008 with Gustav, Dolly and Ike.We should always be prepared for a storm as unpredictable as Isaac, but as of now his definite path is still uncertain. We'll have an even better understanding tomorrow at this time.
