Bentley Wins Republican Primary For Alabama Governor

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Incumbent Robert Bentley has easily won the Republican nomination for governor.

Unofficial election returns from the Republican primary Tuesday night show Bentley with 88 percent of the vote with 2 percent of precinct reporting statewide. Former Morgan County Commissioner Stacy George is polling 7 percent and retired Scottsboro businessman Bob Starkey has 5 percent.

Bentley celebrated his victory in Tuscaloosa. He said the strong vote indicates that people like him and appreciate the work he has done.

Bentley advances to the general election Nov. 4 against the winner of the Democratic primary between former U.S. Rep. Parker Griffith and Fayette businessman Kevin Bass.
