COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-You won’t have to journey a thousand miles to the Big Apple to see the ball drop on New Year’s Eve this year.

Columbus will be hosting it’s own commemoration for the bringing in of the New Year. The fifth Annual Ball Drop Downtown New Year’s Eve Block Party will kicks off at 8:30 Monday night on College Street between fourth and fifth street. For just five dollars you can join in on the live music, food, festivities, and fun. Geno and the Mississippi Blues Boys are scheduled to play from 9 PM until midnight.

Former Main Street Director Amber Brislin told WCBI, “There are specials and promotions going on at all the downtown bars and restaurants. We are giving away $500 dollars at midnight. We have our large New Years Eve Ball that is amazing; that will drop from over 100 feet in the air by crane compliments of Glenn Machine Works.”

Tickets are available for purchase at the gate. Admission gates will be set up at the intersection of College and Fourth street. All three streets will be closed for the festivities after two on Monday.
