Andrews Named New Columbus Fire Chief

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus officially has a new fire chief.

Martin Andrews was named to the post Tuesday night. He is the city’s first permanent African-American fire chief. Earl Cunningham previously served as interim chief but did not seek the permanent job.

Andrews previously was assistant chief and has been serving as interim chief since Ken Moore retired at the end of March.

He joined the department in 1987 and worked his way up through the ranks. He’ll be paid $67,000 a year.
