Chamber President Selected as CAFB Honorary Commander

COLUMBUS, Miss- (Press Release) – Columbus Lowndes Chamber of Commerce President, Joey Bragg, has been appointed by Col. John Nichols as his Honorary Commander. Each squadron at Columbus Air Force Base appoints a member of the community as Honorary Commander to recognize and thank them for being an influential community partner. Col. Nichols, Wing Commander of Columbus Air Force Base, has appointed Bragg.

“I am honored to be recognized by Col. Nichols as an Honorary Commander” said Joey Bragg, CLCC President. “He is a good friend and a great leader. I have enjoyed working with him to strengthen the relationship between our community and Columbus Air Force Base.”

Within the Chamber of Commerce, Bragg works to partner every incoming Pilot Training Class with two community partners, known as the Pilot Partner Welcome Program. He works to support various other events and initiatives associated with CAFB, volunteering both professionally and personally.

“We love working with the base,” said Bragg, who is dedicated to serving the base through the Chamber and sees that relationship reciprocated. “Sharing Columbus and all it has to offer with the people at CAFB is really rewarding.”

The more recent project that Bragg has contributed to CAFB is the new highway sign at the base entrance that will be finished construction in May. This $25,000 sign will be 26 feet tall, LED lit, and feature the Air Force Logo welcoming people to CAFB. Bragg along with Chamber Military Affairs committee member Glenn Lautzenhiser fundraised for the sign.

Bragg will serve as Honorary Commander for a two year term.

Bragg was also selected to be an Air Education Training Command Commander as part of the AETC Commander’s Civic Leader Group. The Group brings together approximately 35 civilian leaders from communities across the country with close ties to AETC. The term is for three years during which Bragg will serve a significant role in an ongoing dialogue between the city of Columbus and the U.S. Air Force.
