Video: Date Set for Winona Tax Election

WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) — Winona aldermen have set a date for residents to vote on a tourism tax for their town.

At their meeting Tuesday night, they chose August 2 for the special election.

City leaders want the two percent tax to be on prepared food in the Montgomery County town.

If approved, the money generated would go to recreation improvements, tourism, parks, and economic development.

State lawmakers had to approve legislation before the town could set a date for the referendum.

Residents must approve of the measure by a 60 percent margin.
