Video: Market Street Prep Underway

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI-TV) – The much anticipated 21st annual market street festival is only two weeks away.

Preparation is underway for the two-day festival.

Market Street has been named a Top 20 Event in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society for 17 years.

Nearly 40 thousand people come each year to enjoy the downtown festival.

This year, the theme is Mardi Gras.

Columbus Main Street Director Barbara Bigelow tells WCBI that for the first time ever there will be a parade on Friday night. “We’ll be throwing beads and many moon pies and things like that. We’re calling it a family-style Mardi Gras.”

two New Orleans bands will take the stage Friday evening.

Market Street kicks off May 6th and runs through Saturday May 7th with music, food and local artisans.
