LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Energy cost savings are helping spur economic development in Winston County. A Public Service Commission program allowed Atmos gas to install energy infrastructure in Louisville.

The energy availability helped economic developers lure a plywood plant and three hundred 50 jobs to the area.

State and business leaders say it’s welcome news for residents.

“This program brought in $487,000.00 of natural gas infrastructure to power Winston Plywood, and bring them low, affordable energy. But at the same time, helping all the other customers of the gas company, because it helps keep rates low and stable.”

“We are getting clean natural gas into the plant, and really giving them an opportunity to make a competitive product, and bring a lot of jobs to this community.”

The “Supplemental Growth” fund provided money for the improvements and is the first program of its kind in the U.S.
