OAKLAND and JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) -The record Powerball jackpot leaves many wondering if the Magnolia State will join the lottery but it doesn’t look likely.

In recent years, lottery bills have died in the legislature with no serious consideration. But lawmakers believe the issue will come up again this legislative session.

“I think there probably will be legislation introduced, there has been no general discussion in the legislature so far, committees are not even appointed, so I can’t tell you how it will be received or what will happen, there is some interest among some, and so we will see how that will play out.”

Many lawmakers are opposed for religious reasons or to protect casinos.
