Candlelight Service Held For Dajah Shaw

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI)-It’s been almost a week since 21-year old Dajah Shaw was shot and killed while attending a rap concert in West Point.

On Thursday, family and friends held a candlelight service to honor her memory.

It was a very emotional but yet uplifting scene during the candlelight vigil.

During the service family and friends read poems, and just talked about fond memories they shared with Shaw.

Those close to her describe the 21-year old as being fierce, strong and special.

They said Shaw always said that one day she was going to be famous.

Now although she was still a young woman she definitely Impacted a lot of people’s lives, and that was evident by large number of people in attendance during the vigil.

The West Point community is still grieving this loss but friends told WCBI they’re trying to remain strong because they know that’s what Dajah would want if she was still here right now.

“I know that she wouldn’t want us crying,” said Amber Franks, who’s a long time friend of Shaw. “It was rare that you seen that girl cry, it was rare, because she was so strong. I mean take on burdens and burdens she was strong. So I mean, overtime, yea it hurt. It hurt in light when you just think about it like, she’s really gone, but at the end of the day, you have to be at peace with it because it’s going to happen to everybody it just so happened to her so young.”

Funeral services for Shaw will be held Friday evening at Third Mount Olive Baptist Church in West Point.
