CALEDONIA, Miss. (WCBI) – Students at Caledonia Middle School take a trip a back in time.

They turned their practice football field into a Civil War battlefield and park on Monday (4-22).

Youngsters were divided into groups, then given a problem that people might have faced during the Civil War era.

After months of planning and rehearsal, they dressed up in period costumes and performed skits for their classmates.

Eighth grade teacher Allison Barnette says ” This is a great learning experience. It is not only about history and researching resources, it’s also about learning to work together as a team. It’s a real life experience for these kids.”

Eighth grader Taylor Dodson says, ” Our museum piece is about the underground railroad, and a lot of things on that board, I thought were true until I started researching and through our research, we found that some of these things that everybody thinks are true in fact are not.”

This is the fourth year students at Caledonia Middle School have taken part in this exercise.
