STEENS, Miss. (WCBI) — After a tough 2015 campaign, CCA is back at it.

The Rams were young and inexperienced a season ago but this season head coach Greg Watkins has the pieces in place for what could be a special season.

“It was hard last year when we only had one senior,” coach Watkins said. “This year, with so many seniors, we have leaders. These guys are used to winning in other sports. They know how to lead.”

The players see a change in this year’s team from last year’s squad.

“There’s a different attitude about us,” senior Andrew Sparks said. “Last year, it was our junior year and we weren’t serious. We messed around too much. This year we’re very serious and we’re ready to do what it takes.”

“We have a lot of talent and I’m looking forward to seeing us play this year,” senior Maurice Dantzler said. “It’s going to be fun and everybody is family here. That’s what I like and I’m looking forward to finishing my last year with this group.”

That group is hopeful this could be their year to make noise in MAIS.

“We have 9 seniors that have been playing together since the 7th grade,” senior Kimarri Whitfield said. “We have the chemistry. We have enough and we can make a run to state.”
