LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The spelling skills of students in grades four through eight at Columbus Middle School were put to the test Thursday (1/10) morning.

After drawing numbers and going through a test round, about 45 middle school students successfully began spelling words some of you possibly would have missed.

Little by little they were weeded out by incorrect spelling of very challenging words.

Edification was the word 7th grade Caledonia Middle School student Elise Cook spelled that got her the title of queen spelling bee.

Cook now goes on to compete on the regional level in Memphis in March.
