MAYHEW, Miss. (WCBI) — High school juniors and seniors are competing to earn bragging rights at their school for the next year.

It’s all part of the annual Scholars’ Olympiad, a scholarship tournament for high school students.

Their knowledge is put to the test against others their age, as the students are tested in their highest areas of success, from academics to more hands on career vocational classes.

Each school represented will have one winner of the 2015 Olympiad.

Organizers say it’s an educational day, giving students a break from the regular classroom.

“It’s a really big confidence booster for a lot of the students,” Assistant Dean of Instruction Gina Thompson. “Some of them have never done anything like this before. Some of them come from small schools in the area. It’s a really good day where they can come and have fun with their friends.”

Nine area schools were represented at the Olympiad this year.
