Video: CPD Officer’s Daughter Diagnosed with Brain Tumor

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- The heartbreak that a parent feels when their child is sick is unimaginable.

Columbus Police Officer Kenneth Brewer and his wife Heather know this feeling all too well.

This past January, their 9-month-old daughter Kensley was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, called Anaplastic Astrocytoma.

“We were just in shock when we found out,” said Officer Kenneth Brewer. “The main thing is we have to stay strong.”

Baby Kensley needs 4 rounds of chemotherapy from St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Travel expenses are adding up for the Brewer family, which is why the police department is stepping in.

A raffle fundraiser will be held April 1st at 6 P.M. The event will take place at the Columbus Police Department. Several of the officers saw a need and stepped in.

“It broke my heart when I found out,” said Investigator Tommy Watkins. “I hate to see anybody’s child go through that. It just bothers me and being a police officer, all of us are family here.”

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the police department. Raffle prizes include an AR-15 rifle, jewelry, a grill, and gift certificates to Mugshots Restaurant.

An account has also been set up in Kensley’s name at BankFirst locations across Mississippi.
