Baldwyn Man Jailed For Failing To Register As A Sex Offender

PRENTISS CO., Miss. (WCBI) – A man is behind bars for repeatedly_uploadimages_photoAttachment(85807) failing to register as a sex offender.

On April 27th, Prentiss County investigators arrested 61-year-old JD Stewart of Baldwyn on a warrant of Failure to Register Under Sex Offender Registration Law.

Authorities say this is the second time in the past several weeks that Stewart has been charged for not complying with registration obligations.

Stewart is still in jail today, waiting on an initial appearance in front of a judge.

Under the law, sex offenders are required to register with the sheriff’s office, then maintain a current state ID from the driver’s license office.

The Prentiss County Sheriff’s Office has an investigator that registers the offender, then another officer that monitors their compliance on a monthly basis.

The state of Mississippi posts the information of registered sex offenders on it’s website, accessible through the Mississippi Sex Offender Registry, which has a photo of the offender as well as his/her address and a pin map of the offender’s residence.

Anyone curious as to whether they have an offender living near them can visit the site.
