Guntown High Speed Chase, Two Teenagers Charged

GUNTOWN, Miss. (WCBI) — An early Tuesday morning high speed chase leaves two teenagers detained in the Lee County Jail.

Authorities say, around three Tuesday morning, they found suspicion in a car that fit the description of one reported stolen from Pontotoc County. The chase begin after the officer attempted to make a routine stop.

“The vehicle didn’t stop. Instead he sped off and led us on a high-speed chase,” said Guntown Police Cpl. Adam Cook.

The suspects sped south on Highway 145 into Saltillo. They turned right on Tiger Drive and drove past Saltillo High School and Saltillo Primary School before heading north on the four-lane of Highway 45.

Authorities say the chase ended  when the driver took a turn too wide, left the road and hit a culvert.

The driver, Joshua Burns, of Baldwyn is charged with felony fleeing, DUI, no proof of insurance, two counts of reckless driving, running a stop sign, and failure to use a turn signal. The passenger Brandon McCauley, of Pontotoc, is being held for Pontotoc County for the stolen vehicle charge.
