West Point Police Search for Armed Robbery Suspect

West Point, MS, Friday, July 19, 2013: (PRESS RELEASE) At around 3:30pm Thursday evening police were dispatched to the 700 block of Calhoun Street in reference to an armed robbery. Upon arrival police spoke to a victim, whose name is not being released, who reported being robbed at his home.

The victim reported to officers on the scene that two men entered his home and displayed a handgun. He was tied up and the suspects removed numerous items from his residence before leaving the scene in the victim’s car. The vehicle was later recovered abandoned in the parking lot of a local church.

The victim later freed himself and alerted authorities. The victim suffered minor injuries in the assault but did not require medical attention. Warrants have been issued for the arrest of 29 year old Joshua Karriem for kidnapping, armed robbery, grand larceny, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Other charges are pending. His last known address was 869 Cotton Mill Rd.

According to Chief Brinkley, “We have reason to believe he is still in the area and due to the nature of this incident we consider him armed and dangerous.” The police department is seeking the communities help in locating Karriem and a reward of up to $1,000 is available through the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers.
