ACKERMAN, Miss. – (WCBI) An Ackerman dentist is offering dentistry where it counts, from the heart. Today [Friday], walk in’s didn’t have to pay a dime. The line formed early this morning at Mitchell Dental Clinic on Main Street in Ackerman.
Bright and early Friday morning, doctors and dental hygienists came to the clinic with their sleeves rolled up ready to handle the long line of patients outside and in the office.
“This is a big event. We love doing it. It does take a lot of people to see the 150 patients,” said Amanda Clark, Mitchell Dental Clinic.
“We got here at about 9, I think. And we were number 119,” said Christian Winston, Dental Patient.
“We do it every year to give back to our community that has been so supportive to us over the years,” said Clark.
It’s the annual “Dentistry From The Heart” initiative, a day where dental care is on the house. People came from near and far to take advantage of good professional dentistry.
“Cause I needed a little work done and its really good to be able to come up here and get it done today when its free and I’m really greatfull, for providing this service for people,” said Winston.
“Insurance you know doesn’t cover things completely so even some people with insurance need help. A majority of the patients do not. Its a low percentage that does have insurance,” adds Clark.
With those occasional layoffs and lack of employee insurance, “Dentistry from the Heart” is lending a hand by welcoming everyone to their Smile Studio. It was like a production line, and the army of dental professionals were busy as bees at the Main Street clinic location.
“And we really appreciate Dr. John Griffin and his staff. They have helped us for 6 years now with volunteering their time to get this accomplished for us,” said Clark.
Mitchell Dental Clinic is the first clinic in Mississippi working with the national organization offering Dentistry From The Heart.
