WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – At Dugan Memorial Home in West Point the color purple could be seen everywhere Friday.

Employees donned purple and colored balloons were just about everywhere, and by the time a WCBI News Crew got there the purple cake was almost gone. The folks at Dugan are raising awareness to the disease that causes memory loss and disrupts daily routine. Families, patients, and residents of homes like Dugan are well aware of the brain disease that causes a slow decline in memory, thinking and reasoning skills.

“It is very important because there are so many people who are, who have been diagnosed or have family members who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer. And I work in a setting where I see people who are, their lives are effected by Alzheimer,” said Jaqueline Jackson, Activities Director.

An estimated 5.2 million Americans of all ages have Alzheimer’s disease in 2013.
